HOW TO COMPARE ELECTRIC BIKE VS REGULAR BIKE
Electric bikes vs. regular bikes can be a tough decision to make. The most important thing to consider is what you will do on the bike. If you are looking for an easy, carefree ride around town, an electric bike may not be a good choice. But if you want to take things up a notch and give yourself more freedom, then an electric bike might be your best option.
An electric bike is more than a regular bike with an electric engine. The two are similar in many ways but are also very different in some aspects. If you decide that an electric bike is right for you, there are some things to consider before you buy one.
Comparing Electric Bikes and Regular Bikes
1. Riding range
The range is the distance that can be covered before the battery needs to be recharged. It is essential to consider range because most e-bikes are designed for short-distance use. That means if you go on a long ride, the battery will run out before you get home, or you will have to recharge it again. The average range of a modern electric bike is between 40 and 70 miles (64 and 113 km). This depends on what kind of battery you have and how well it works. This explains electric bikes vs. regular bikes.
2. Battery capacity and weight
The weight and capacity of your battery are significant when choosing an electric bike. If your battery weighs more than 6 pounds (2.7 kg), then you will need to carry it on your bike, which defeats the purpose of having an electric bike in the first place. Most electric bikes in this category are around 20 pounds (9 kg) if you want something lightweight.
The battery capacity also dramatically influences how long it takes to recharge. On average, a good-quality e-bike battery can be recharged for a few years before it needs to be replaced. This depends significantly on your charging system and how often you charge your battery.
3. Types of batteries
Before buying an electric bike, it’s essential to know the manufacturer’s battery. There are several electric bike batteries: lithium, lead acid, nickel-metal hydride, and air. Lithium batteries are prevalent in high-end models but can cost more to replace. Lead-acid batteries are the most affordable, and they work with most e-bikes.
Nickel-metal hydride batteries are not as expensive as lithium batteries but still cost more than lead-acid batteries. Air battery packs are the lightest battery packs, and they offer an attractive design solution that is lightweight and takes up less space than other kinds of e-bike battery packs.
4. Torque and speed
Electric bikes have speed ranges ranging from 5 to 30 mph, depending on the model. Most e-bikes on the market can reach speeds up to 20 mph (32.19 km/h) efficiently.
The rate at which you will be using your bike depends on how many others are using it. If everyone else is biking, it’s usually faster because the bikes have to wait for other bikers to pass again before moving forward.
The torque output also impacts how fast a bicycle can move when pedaling. Torque is measured in watts and determines how easily you can push your bike uphill with each single pedal stroke. The torque output is significant when choosing an electric bike because it will determine how easy it is to cycle uphill without putting too much extra effort into cycling.
A powerful motor usually means that the bike is heavier, but at least you will not be exhausted when pedaling up a hill as fast as possible.
5. Motor speed control
When choosing an electric bike, there are several types of motor speed control to consider, including pedal assist systems, throttle-activated systems, and torque sensor activation systems. Pedal assist systems are the most common type of system today because they are easy to use, affordable, and reliable in most cases.
Finally, deciding between an electric bike and a regular bike is simple if you know which type of bike best meets your needs. Making sure you select the right kind of battery is essential because it will determine how long you can cycle before your battery needs to be recharged.
From the Velowave team
Simon, one of our founders, is very good at his job and doesn’t have much time for his family. On a family day, he planned to go cycling with his family instead of going to work with his coworkers. He chose the route, but even though his wife tried hard, she couldn’t keep up because she didn’t have enough strength, even though his wife likes to ride her bike to see the world.
After he gets home, he thinks his wife would be happier and more at ease if he had an electric bike. On a relaxing trip, children and older people can also ride bikes. So, Simon went online and bought an electric bike. But the first electric bike they purchased isn’t perfect. Compared to other high-end electric bike brands on the market, he thought about how to make high-quality electric bikes more affordable for more people. So he called his friends and asked why they didn’t start making plans for the electric bike immediately.
The ideas clashed. The founders started making plans for and making e-bikes. Before they went on sale, they were tried out many times.
We are excited about everything. We are committed to getting more families and cycling enthusiasts smart and cool e-bikes. Let more people love our world, the outdoors, and riding.
Velowave works with One Tree Planted to help restore forests, make room for wildlife, and help people worldwide.
Traditional bikes are not the same as our electric bikes. They can replace cars and make getting around easier. At the same time, you can get some exercise, take in the beautiful scenery, and relax your body and mind.
We are committed to researching and making electric bicycles for different groups of people. We also insist on studying and making the best products that are also the most affordable. Pay for the quality of the product, not the name.
