Dual-motor High-Performance Scooter
The Hornet is the smallest and most affordable two-motor electric scooter we sell. It fits between the Dualtron Spider and the Speedway IV, which only has one motor. The Hornet is a great scooter for just $1,549. It has two 500W motors that add up to 2200W peak power. This gives the scooter great acceleration and climbing power, and its top speed is electronically controlled at 28MPH.
Battery Pack
One thing that makes the Electric Scooter models from eWheels stand out is that their battery packs use Korean LG cells instead of Chinese cells, which are more likely to break and have unknown life-cycle characteristics. The advantage of this is that these LG cells are made in the hundreds of millions and have very well-defined performance properties that don’t change from batch to batch. This can’t be said about many smaller Chinese battery cell producers. The LG MH1 3.2Ah cell, which is set up as a 13S6P, is in the Hornet (13 cells in series & 6 parallels).
Packed full of Features
The Hornet stands out for more than just how fast it is. It has a number of other features that make it unique. On the handlebar, there is a horn button, a separate LCD readout for the real-time battery voltage, an easy-to-read large color LCD Dashboard interface, a separate light switch, a key locking security system (but you’ll still need to physically lock the scooter), dual-charging input ports, trolley wheels, hydraulic shock dampeners on the front, and a rear spring on the rear motor with an expressed joint.
Superior Braking
The Hornet is the only 8-inch scooter with front- and rear-mounted hydraulic disc brakes that let you stop quickly and smoothly. In addition to the mechanical brakes, each of the 500W motors also has regenerative braking, which can be set through the Dashboard controller to one of several levels of strength.
Advantages:
High-Performance eScooter:
One of the main goals of designing the Hornet was to make an electric scooter that was small but well-equipped and could handle the challenges of the daily commuter. With two 500-watt motors and a large 921Wh, 78-battery-cell pack, the bike has enough power to climb hills steeper than 20 degrees and keep a 28MPH cruising speed on flat ground.
Suspension:
The Hornet has hydraulic suspension dampers on the front fork, and the back has an adjustable sprung expressed arm. These give you up to 2″ of travel, which smooths out most of the bumps and uneven spots when you’re standing on the deck.
Safety & Security:
The ability to stop is an important feature that is often left out of a table of specs. If something goes wrong, a high-performance scooter needs to be able to stop quickly. The Hornet is the best 8-inch scooter because it has both hydraulic and regenerative braking. There is also a front headlight and rear brake lights, each with its own switch, so that people behind you can see you and know when you are slowing down. There is also a button for the horn and a security key that keeps someone from turning the scooter on when it is locked.
Trolley Wheels:
With the pre-installed trolley kit, you can use the trolley to roll it along when it’s folded, like when you’re getting on a subway or train.
Easier Maintenance:
The Hornet has solid rubber tires that are 8″ x 2.36″, which should mean less time spent in the shop. The top deck plate lets you get to the battery and controllers, which makes it easier to do maintenance work on the scooter than with some of the other models.
Value for Money:
At $1,549, the Hornet is probably the best-priced dual-motor eScooter you can buy in the US right now, considering all of its features.
Disadvantages:
56.5lb Weight:
Even though it’s smaller than the Speedway III and IV, it weighs 56.5 pounds, which is several pounds more. Because the motors are heavy and the frame is made of anodized steel instead of aluminum, this is the case. The trolley kit, which is not available on either of the other Speedway scooters, makes up for a lot of this weight.
Cheaper single-motor Scooter Available:
If you don’t need the speedy power of a dual-motor scooter, you can get the very capable Turbowheel Dart for $550 less.
